Collection includes documents pertaining to the American Revolution, the bulk of which pertains to the military activities of Newburyport, MA and the Committee of Safety set up by the town during the war. Documents include: letters; military payment records; military provisions records; bills; requests made to citizens to refrain from the purchase of "Bohea of India Tea;" requests to the Colony of Massachusetts Bay to reimburse the towns for monies incurred through the measures taken to defend the town during the war. Of note is an incomplete "deed of separation" between Timothy Dexter and his wife, Elizabeth dated 1793; the document states the terms of the separation and refers to the issue of alimony.
